Been to Middle Earth; Do you speak my language?

Okay, this is entirely because DaHob sent me the link to Talk Nerdy to Me.

When Nat first saw the ads shouting  “win a trip to Middle Earth,” she assumed it was just another studio amusement park, like “spend a weekend in the Wizarding World” or “Cruise on the Black Pearl.”

It wasn’t unt

The Visit

He could have had any man or woman in the whole nation — probably in several of the adjacent nations as well. He was a brilliant man,a dashing pirate, and his airship was one of the finest known to navy nor fleet. He was a folk hero the likes of which had not come since Dywin Talizen in the age of stories and myths.

And his airship had ducked in, dodging the royal navy ships and the cannons, to visit a political prisoner in a quiet exile in a mountainous corner. He had brought her a rose, the sort of gift that fit the stories, risking everything for a romantic gesture.

He couldn’t stay long; he couldn’t even risk a kiss, even if she would have accepted it. But he brought her a rose.

And he brought her a key.

Present

a story for my New Year’s Prompt Call

Warning... a wee bit maudlin.

The snow had finally melted.  It had been a long winter - slow-starting but then dumping buckets of snow on us all of February and March and most of April.

It was May 5th, and I could finally see all of the grass, or at least the parts that had survived.  I could see, too, my poor bushes, which had not done well but which were, now, trying to put out the buds they normally would have put out in early March.

What Happened?

Written to LilFluff's prompt to my new "WTF?" Prompt Call.

Probably a new universe.  The last two times Fluff prompted me, we ended up with Kael's Tower/a New World and The Hidden Mall, so...

When Emma found the door in the closet of her great-grandfather’s old house, she knew what she

Hurt/Comfort: Minder

Written to R.Coots' prompt. Some bodily injury, but no serious violence and no real loss of consent.

🤕

Ravi wasn’t exactly running, but he was hurrying.  He had someplace to be. He really had to get there soon, or he was going to lose yet another blind date to his own stupidi-

The crack in the sidewalk grabbed his foot and sent him sprawling.  Last pair of nice pants - ruined. Palms of his hands - ruined. Face - banged.  Chances at this date - gone.

“Oh, shit.  Look at you.”

He didn’t recognize the voice, but there were hands on him, lifting him up.  “Come on. You’re an absolute mess.”

“Nuala?”  He did recognize the voice.  Blind date #2. He’d spilled sauce on both of them.

Blocked

Sophie woke up to a set of blocks in her bedroom.

She recognized them immediately.  The ones in the bedroom were small, the sort you’d stumble over.  She picked them up one by one and stacked then against the wall in the space room.  If she got them stacked nicely enough, sometimes they would just go away on their own.  If she didn’t...

There, in the hallway, with yellow and black stripes, blocking the whole traffic path, a bigger one, almost up to her hip.  She went around, down the stairs and then up the back stairs.  She’d move the roadblock later.  First, she needed a shower.  And some coffee.

A New Lease on Life

Written to @lilfluff's prompt:
Leaving home for a weekend and returning to find your home and entire neighborhood has been replaced.
🏡

“My house is gone!”

Ed Lawton was furious.  He slammed his fist down on the counter, leaned forward, and got as close to the clerk as he could.

The New Lease on Life clerk seemed entirely unbothered by this.  While Ed wasn’t going to give an inch, he found himself wondering if the woman was one of the new android models he’d been hearing about.

Or maybe she just heard this a lot.  “The brochure said ‘Get away from it all.’ sir.  And you have, indeed, gotten away from it all.”
